Keratin is considered to be the foundation of the hair, as it is the protein which is its main structural component. Each hair consists of about 90% of keratin. Therefore, its deficiency greatly affects the health of our hair.
Methionine is one of the eight essential amino acids, structural components of proteins. The body cannot synthesize methionine; the intake of this amino acid is of particular importance as methionine is a precursor with an important role in the synthesis of other amino acids necessary to the body.
L-cysteine is an important structural component of hair, and the growth and health of the hair depends on the appropriate dosage of L-cysteine. The main feature of L-cysteine is that it is a sulphur-containing amino acid. It contributes to the structure of proteins through the bonds developed among the cysteine sulphur atoms (disulfide bonds, S-S).
Hair loss is often linked to the deficiency of zinc. Zinc is a metallic element that promotes cell production, growth and repair of tissues. Zinc also works in maintaining the glands associated with hair follicle lubrication.
